No DDC vs. Desert Edge

January Monthly Meeting

No DDC vs. Desert Edge

Everyone is welcome to attend the monthly meeting of the Community Council of Scottsdale. The meeting that will be held on Thursday, January 18th, 2018. It will be at the Granite Reef Senior Center located at 1700 North Granite Reef Road; it is just North of McDowell Road. Our meeting will be in Room 8 at 7:00 PM.

This month’s guest speaker will be Jason Alexander of the Preserve the Preserve and NO DDC organization.

Jason will explain the efforts to get the issue on the ballot so that the resident, taxpayers, can decide on whether the Desert Discovery Center, now known as the Desert Edge, should be built within the 30,000 acres McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

Fact – Scottsdale residents were asked to tax themselves for the city of Scottsdale to purchase the pristine desert acreage for preservation.  Each time the request was on the ballot for a public vote.

Fact – At no time was there language on the ballot that stated a venue of any sort was to built on the required land.

Most Scottsdalians did not know that such a venture was in the works until it was presented as a done deal. Some of us recall that Jerry and Flo Nelson had hoped for an education element specifically for that area. They would be shocked at the ideas being entertained and plopped down amid the McDowell Sonoran Preserve today.

Please join us for discussion on getting the item on the ballot that would allow the citizen voice to be heard.

What concerns you? Come with questions, and we will make sure we publish them and the answers right here.

Our meetings start at 7:00 PM, and we look forward to seeing you there!
